In this article I will explain with an example, how to select data from MySQL database in ASP.Net MVC.
Note: For beginners in ASP.Net MVC, please refer my article ASP.Net MVC Hello World Tutorial with Sample Program example.

Database

I have made use of the following table Customers with the schema as follows.

I have already inserted few records in the table.

Model

The Model class consists of following properties.
public class CustomerModel
{
    public int CustomerId { get; set; }
    public string Name { get; set; }
    public string Country { get; set; }
}

Namespaces

You will need to import the following namespaces.
using System.Configuration;
using MySql.Data.MySqlClient;

Controller

The Controller consists of following Action method.

Action Method for handling GET operation

Inside this Action method, a Generic List collection of CustomerModel class object is created.
Then, the MySqlDataReader class object is created where ExecuteReader method is called and WHILE loop is executed and records are added into the Generic List collection of CustomerModel class object.
Note: For more details on ExecuteReader method, please refer my article Using MySqlCommand ExecuteReader Example in ASP.Net with C# and VB.Net.

Finally, a Generic List collection of CustomerModel class object is returned to the View.
public class HomeController : Controller
{
    // GET: Home
    public ActionResult Index()
    {
        string sql = "SELECT CustomerId, Name, Country FROM Customers";
        string constr = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["constr"].ConnectionString;

        List<CustomerModel> customers = new List<CustomerModel>();
        using (MySqlConnection con = new MySqlConnection(constr))
        {
            using (MySqlCommand cmd = new MySqlCommand(sql, con))
            {
                con.Open();
                using (MySqlDataReader sdr = cmd.ExecuteReader())
                {
                    while (sdr.Read())
                    {
                        customers.Add(new CustomerModel
                        {
                            CustomerId = Convert.ToInt32(sdr["CustomerId"]),
                            Name = sdr["Name"].ToString(),
                            Country = sdr["Country"].ToString()
                        });
                    }
                }
                con.Close();
            }
            return View(customers);
        }
    }
}

View

HTML Markup

Inside the View, in the very first line the CustomerModel class is declared as IEnumerable which specifies that it will be available as a Collection.
For displaying the records, an HTML Table is used. A FOR EACH loop will be executed over the Model which will generate the HTML Table rows with the Customer records.
@model IEnumerable<CustomerModel>
@using Select_MySQL_MVC.Models
@{
    Layout = null;
}

<!DOCTYPE html>

<html>
<head>
    <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width" />
    <title>Index</title>
</head>
<body>
    <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">
        <tr>
            <th>Customer Id</th>
            <th>Name</th>
            <th>Country</th>
        </tr>
        @foreach (CustomerModel customer in Model)
        {
            <tr>
                <td>@customer.CustomerId</td>
                <td>@customer.Name</td>
                <td>@customer.Country</td>
            </tr>
        }
    </table>
</body>
</html>
