In this article I will explain with an example, how to Insert Textbox value into SQL Server database using Stored Procedure in ASP.Net Core (.Net Core) Razor Pages.

Database

I have made use of the following table Customers with the schema as follows.
ASP.Net Core Razor Pages: Insert TextBox value into Database using Stored Procedure

Note: You can download the database table SQL by clicking the download link below.

Stored Procedure

The following Stored Procedure will be used to Insert data into the SQL Server database table.
This Stored Procedure accepts Name and Country parameters, which are used to Insert the records in Customers Table.
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[Customers_InsertCustomer]
       @Name VARCHAR(100),
       @Country VARCHAR(50)
AS
BEGIN
      INSERT INTO [Customers]
                  ([Name]
                  ,[Country])
      VALUES
                 (@Name
                 ,@Country)

      SELECT SCOPE_IDENTITY()
END

Model

The Model class consists of following properties.
public class CustomerModel
{
    public int CustomerId { getset; }
    public string Name { getset; }
    public string Country { getset; }
}

Namespaces

You will need to import the following namespaces.
using System.Data;
using System.Data.SqlClient;

Index PageModel (Code-Behind)

Inside the PageModel, first the public property of CustomerModel class and IConfiguration interface is created.
Then, the IConfiguration interface is injected into the Constructor (IndexModel) using Dependency Injection method and the injected object is assigned to the public property of IConfiguration interface.
The PageModel consists of following Handler methods.

Handler method for handling GET operation

This Handler method left empty as it is not required.

Handler method for handling POST operation

This method accepts CustomerModel object as a parameter.
Inside the Handler Method, the connection is read from the ConnectionStrings section of the AppSettings.json file.
Note: For more details on how to read Connection String from AppSettings.json, please refer my article .Net Core 7: Read Connection String from AppSettings.json file.

Then, an object of SqlCommand class is created and the name of the Stored Procedure is passed to it as parameter.
The Name and Country values are fetched from their respective TextBoxes using CustomerModel class object and passed as parameters to SqlCommand object.
The ExecuteScalar function is executed and the records are inserted into the SQL Server database and the CustomerId of the inserted record is set to the CustomerId property of the CustomerModel class.
Note: For more details on how to use ExecuteScalar function, please refer Understanding SqlCommand ExecuteScalar in C# and VB.Net.

public class IndexModel : PageModel
{
    public CustomerModel Customer { getset; }
    public IConfiguration Configuration { getset; }
    public IndexModel(IConfiguration configuration)
    {
        this.Configuration = configuration;
    }

    public void OnGet()
    {
    }

    public void OnPostSubmit(CustomerModel customer)
    {
        this.Customer = new CustomerModel();
        string spName = "Customers_InsertCustomer";
        string constr = this.Configuration.GetSection("ConnectionStrings")["MyConn"];
        using (SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(constr))
        {
            using (SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(spName, con))
            {
                cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
                cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Name", customer.Name);
                cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Country", customer.Country);
                con.Open();
                this.Customer.CustomerId = Convert.ToInt32(cmd.ExecuteScalar());
                con.Close();
            }
        }
    }
}

Razor Page (HTML)

HTML Markup

Inside the Razor Page, the ASP.Net TagHelpers is inherited.
The HTML of Razor Page consists of an HTML Form consisting of an HTML Table, which contains a TextBox, a DropDownList and a Submit Button.
The Submit Button has been set with the POST Handler method using the asp-page-handler attribute.
Note: In the Razor PageModel, the Handler method name is OnPostSubmit but here it will be specified as Submit when calling from the Razor HTML Page.

Inside the Razor Page, the following script file is inherited:
1. jquery.min.js

Submitting the Form

When the Submit Button is clicked then, the CustomerModel class object is checked for NULL and if it is not NULL then, the CustomerId is displayed using JavaScript Alert Message Box.

@model Insert_SP_Core_Razor.Pages.IndexModel

            <tr>

                <td><input type="submit" value="Submit" asp-page-handler="Submit" /></td>
            </tr>
        </table>
    </form>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.7.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
    @if (Model.Customer != null)
    {
        <script type="text/javascript">
            $(function () {
                alert("Inserted Customer ID: " + @Model.Customer.CustomerId);
            });
        </script>
    }
</body>
</html>
