Upload SQL Server database in Hosting Server

I have been trying to understand how database are being hosted on hosting platforms.

I know it differs with different hosting companies. But may I please ask, is it the database that I have on my development machine that I will copy and paste on the hosting platform? 

Or do I create a different database from the hosting panel?
