Modal pop up disappears after i click on update button

When i click on the edit button in the gidview, the jquery modal popup1 pops out and when i cick on image_button1 which is the update button on the modal popup, the records update but the modal popup disappears.

if i click on the edit button  again on the gridview the modal popup  pops out with the updated record together with the label that says record updated.

I want to see the modal popup after updating not disappearing

please help.
